A 'clef' is drawn on the staff. The word 'clef' (in Latin, 'Clavis')
means 'key'. So the clef gives us a clue as to how high or low the
notes are to be played.
Instruments that play high notes like the right hand of the piano, the violin,
and the flute
use a 'clef' called the 'treble clef'.
