Index of music topics   Key signatures

This site is for US music terms.
If you want to learn European (UK) music terms, then go to:

Time signatures are many and various!

We have already learnt about 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4.

The number at the top tells us how many beats in the measure. The number at the bottom tells us the type or kind of note.
So 2/4 = 2 quarter notes in a measure.

2/2 means there are 2 half notes in each measure.

Here is a section of a piece with different notes, but with a
2/2 time signature.
