This pattern is (using the scale of A minor)
step, half-step,

A to B, B to C, C to
D, D to E,

half-step.
E to F sharp, F sharp to G sharp, G
sharp to A.
All melodic minor scales go up the scale with the pattern:
step, half-step, step, step, step, step,
half-step.
Harmonic minor scales go up the scale with a different
pattern.
step, half-step, step,
step
A to B, B to C, C to
D, D to E
half-step, step plus a half-step,
half-step.
E to F F to G sharp,
G sharp to A
All harmonic minor scales go up the scale with the pattern:
step, half-step, step, step, half-step, step plus a half-step, half-step.
