Peccaries (also known as
javelinas) are medium-sized mammals. Peccaries are members of the
Artiodactyl . They are found in the southwestern area of North America and
throughout Central and South America. Peccaries usually measure between 90 and
130 cm in length (3 to 4 feet), and a full-grown adult usually weighs between
about 20 and 40 kilograms (44 to 88 pounds).
These photos and videos were filmed in the Lake Corpus Christi
State Park in February 2008.
Peccaries are omnivorous, and will eat small animals, although
their preferred food consists of roots, grass, seeds, and fruit. Peccaries,
indeed, are aggressive enough that they cannot be domesticated as they are
likely to injure people.
